Blog Post Week 2

Blog Post 2  Classroom Reflection     This week is the last one where I use my mentor teacher's slides and lessons. Starting Monday, I am making my own. This week had halloween so I dressed as a cowboy for my students and I had a halloween themed quiz for my students on Friday. I have attached pictures of the classroom and how it works. I also made class norms posters with them on Friday as well.  In the Surface Learning in Social Studies  video I found that I had used this method this week. I had students read their test written responses and had them say what could be improved and I explained how I graded them and what I was looking for.   Since I am making lessons for next week, I hope to use the backwards planning methods from ASCD to make sure the students get the general idea of American Expansion as well as specific learning goals like the vocabulary for it, such as Manifest destiny (ASCD 2019).

Hello! This first image is a picture of Mirror Lake near Granby, it was one of the longest hikes I have done and it represents my love of the outdoors. I try to get out doors whenever I can because I spend a lot of time inside a classroom. I loved history so I studied it in my undergrad, but realized that it limited me to only a few jobs. After my freshman year at college, I met my fiancĂ© and she was studying for elementary education. She introduced me to all the education majors and I discovered that I would probably love teaching. I joined City Year's program to find out if that was true.      I want to focus heavily on lesson planning and creating effective engaging lessons. I never learned how they were made and I want to be competent in the field to go on my own...
